According to data from the National Bureau of Statistics, Xinjiang produced a total of 278.983 million tons of raw coal from January to June 2025, marking a YoY increase of 12.4%. This not only represents a record-high coal output for the region in the first half of the year but also places Xinjiang at the top among major coal-producing provinces and regions in terms of growth rate. In June alone, Xinjiang produced 53.923 million tons of raw coal, up 21.9% YoY, with the growth rate accelerating by 3.1 percentage points compared to the previous month.

The new production record in Xinjiang can be attributed to two main factors. First, the continuous release of advanced production capacity. Since the launch of the 14th Five-Year Plan, and in line with the national energy supply assurance strategy, Xinjiang has accelerated the development of large-scale coal supply bases and has steadily released advanced coal production capacity. For example, in early July, the No. 4 open-pit mine operated by Shandong Energy Group’s Xinjiang Yankuang Qinen Mining Co., Ltd. in the Huoshaoshan Industrial Park of the Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone entered trial operation.
Second, coal mine production efficiency has been significantly improved. To date, total investment in coal mine intelligentization in Xinjiang has exceeded 9.6 billion yuan. A total of 42 intelligent coal mines have been completed, accounting for 65.6% of all coal mines in the region. Xinjiang has also developed 43 intelligent long-wall faces and 18 integrated tunneling faces equipped with intelligent bolting and excavation systems, with each face requiring 4–6 fewer workers compared to 2023. Additionally, more than 1,500 unmanned mining trucks have been deployed in open-pit coal mines, ranking among the highest in the country.
