China’s thermal coal import totaled 12.08 million tons in August

According to China Customs, China’s thermal coal (including bituminous and sub-bituminous coal, but not including lignite) import totaled 12.08 million tons in August, a rise of 2.19 million tons or 22.14% year on year and up 0.77 million tons or 6.81% on the month. In the first eight months of 2018, China imported 84.28 million tons of thermal coal, up 13 million tons or 18.24% year on year.
In August, China’s lignite import totaled 8.92 million tons, an increase of 1.75million tons or 24.41% year on year but down 0.21million tons or 2.30% on the month. In the first eight months of 2018, China imported 69.75 million tons of lignite, up 20.10 million tons or 40.48% year on year.
In August, China’s coking coal import totaled 7 million tons, an increase of 24.80% year on year but down 0.44 million tons or 5.91% on the month. In the first eight months of 2018, China imported 43.62 million tons of coking coal, down 6.30% year on year. By comparison, China’s coking coal export was 70 thousand tons, up 298.9% year on year. In the first eight months of 2018, China exported 0.69 million tons of coking coal, down 62.7% year on year.
