At the Production Areas:
In Yulin, Shannxi, prices continued to rise, driven by a slight increase in non-power sector demand and higher auction prices from key large mines, leading to an improved trading atmosphere. Some actively selling coal mines further raised prices by 5–10 yuan/ton. In Ordos, both rail-loading stations and nearby end-users maintained strong transportation activity, resulting in steadily decreasing inventories at many mines. Sales of medium- and low-calorific-value coal were particularly strong, with prices showing steady to slightly upward trends. In northern Shanxi, the market remained firm to slightly bullish. Increased participation from users in auctions boosted overall sentiment, prompting minor price increases at some mines.
At the Ports:
Inquiry demand slightly increased, while continued rises in transportation costs supported sellers’ optimism, leading to further upward price quotations. Looking ahead, as supply pressure at both production areas and ports eases, and rigid seasonal demand gradually picks up, the overall market supply-demand balance is expected to improve. Thermal coal prices are projected to have further room for upward correction.
For Imported Coal:
Recent rainfall in some major Indonesian coal-producing regions has not significantly affected supply. Current price dynamics are mainly driven by terminal demand. Due to ongoing uncertainty in the Asia-Pacific thermal coal market, buyers remain cautious. Meanwhile, some producers are holding firm on prices as current offers approach production cost levels. As a result, the market remains in a temporary stalemate.
