China Shenhua's commercial coal output in May decreased by 1.4% YoY

On the evening of June 16, China Shenhua released an announcement on major operational data. The data showed that in May 2025, China Shenhua's commercial coal output was 28 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.4%, and a month-on-month increase of 2.6%.
In the same month, the company's coal sales volume was 32.5 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 10.7%, and a month-on-month decrease of 8.7%.
From January to May, China Shenhua's cumulative commercial coal output was 137.8 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 1.7%; the coal sales volume was 167.4 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 12.3%.
In May, the loading volume of China Shenhua at Huanghua Port was 19.5 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 0.5%, and a month-on-month increase of 2.6%; the loading volume at Shenhua Tianjin Port Coal Terminal was 3.8 million tons, remaining unchanged year on year, and a month-on-month decrease of 2.6%; the shipping volume was 9 million tons, a year-on-year decrease of 14.3%, and a month-on-month decrease of 3.2%.
In addition, in May 2025, China Shenhua's total power generation was 15.22 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year decrease of 9.1%; the total power sales volume in May was 14.29 billion kilowatt-hours, a year-on-year decrease of 9.2%.
The announcement showed that the main reasons for the year-on-year decrease in the company's coal sales volume in May 2025 were the weak downstream coal demand and the impact of the coal sales settlement progress; the main reasons for the year-on-year decrease in shipping volume and turnover were business structure adjustment and changes in shipping route structure.
