China's energy consumption structure continues to improve, with a steadily decreased proportion of coal consumption in its total, according to an ongoing international mining industry conference.

In 2023, the country saw its coal consumption account for 55.3 percent of its total primary energy consumption, down 12.1 percentage points compared to a decade ago, according to the 2024 China Mining Conference and Exhibition held in north China's Tianjin Municipality.

According to an annual report on China's mineral resources released Tuesday by the Ministry of Natural Resources, over the past decade, the proportion of non-fossil energy sources such as hydropower, nuclear power, wind power and solar power in the country has increased by 7.7 percentage points.

Since 2012, China's energy production has undergone a significant transformation, with the driving force shifting from traditional power sources to new energy. China's energy structure has also been transitioning from a heavy reliance on coal to becoming more diversified and cleaner.

China has committed to a "dual carbon" goal of reaching the peak of carbon emissions by 2030 and attaining carbon neutrality by 2060.
