Henan’s installed capacity of renewable energy generation surpassed coal-power

The reporter recently learned from the State Grid Henan Electric Power Company that by the end of 2023, the installed capacity of renewable energy power generation in Henan province exceeded 67 million kilowatts, and the proportion of coal-power installed capacity decreased to less than 50%, and the installed capacity of renewable energy generation has historically surpassed coal-power.

Renewable energy includes solar energy, wind energy, water energy, biomass energy, geothermal energy, hydrogen energy and so on. As a major province in energy production and consumption, Henan's energy structure has been dominated by coal for a long time. The development of renewable energy is an important measure to cope with climate change, accelerate the process of clean and low-carbon transformation, and achieve carbon peak and carbon neutrality.

In recent years, according to the requirements of deepening ENERGY REVOLUTION and accelerating the planning and construction of NEW ENERGY SYSTEM, Henan has made overall plans to ensure energy security and promote green and low-carbon development, and continue to promote photovoltaic, wind power and pumped storage projects, support the development of biomass energy, hydrogen. Henan's renewable energy structure has been further optimized, industry chain gradually has potential to integrate resources, green electricity trading is scaling up, the development of the renewable energy quality has been vigorously promoted. The installed capacity of renewable energy increased from 22.56 million kW at the end of 2019 to 67.76 million kW at the end of 2023, of which wind power accounted for 32.1%, photovoltaic 55.1%, hydropower 7.9%, and other renewable energy accounted for 4.9%, with an annual growth rate of 32%.

As renewable energy installed proportion rapidly, considering of the overall renewable energy given and ensure the security of power grid, Henan formulated the policy on the operation regulation of distributed photovoltaic, built the first provincial distributed Source-Network-Load-Storage collaborative control system, which that the distributed photovoltaic can be online group-controlled. The last year, group control strategies of distributed photovoltaic had been executed for 39 days, effectively guarantee the safe and stable operation of the power grid. State Grid Henan Electric Power actively serves grid connection of renewable energy, insists on the priority dispatching of renewable energy, continuously improves the prediction accuracy of load and new energy output, rationally arranges the startup mode, digs the potential of power grid adjustment, and ensures the high proportion of renewable energy consumption.

It is understood that, renewable energy generation will generate nearly 100 billion kilowatt-hours in 2023, up 21% year on year, accounting for about a quarter of the total electricity consumption in the whole society.
