Power generation increased by 3.0% year-on-year in December 2022

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, in December 2022, China's electricity generation reached 757.9 billion KWH, up by 3.0% year on year and 2.9 percentage points higher than the previous month. The growth rate of power production accelerated, with an average daily power generation of 24.45 billion KWH.
In December last year, thermal power was basically flat, hydropower increased from a decline, the increase rate of nuclear power slowed down, and wind and solar power grew faster. Among them, thermal power grew by 1.3% year-on-year, 0.1 percentage points slower than last month; Hydropower generation rose 3.6%, compared with a 14.2 percent decline in the previous month. Nuclear power grew by 6.6%, 4.5 percentage points lower than the previous month. Wind power grew by 15.4%, 9.7 percentage points faster than the previous month. Solar power grew 3.2 percent, 3.2 percentage points faster than the previous month.
By category, in December, absolute coal-fired power generation was 554.9 billion KWH, up 1.3 percent year on year; Absolute hydropower generation was 74.7 billion KWH, up 3.6 percent year on year; Absolute wind power generation was 72.3 billion KWH, up 15.4 percent year on year; Nuclear power was 39.7 billion KWH, up 6.6 percent year on year; Absolute solar capacity was 16.2 billion kilowatt-hours, up 3.2 percent from a year earlier.
For the whole of 2022, China generated 8.39 trillion kilowatt-hours of electricity, up 2.2 percent year on year.
By category, the absolute thermal power generation capacity in 2022 reached 5,853.1 billion KWH, up 0.9 percent year on year. Hydropower capacity was 1202 billion KWH, up by 1.0% year on year; Wind power generation was 686.7 billion KWH, up 12.3 percent year on year; Nuclear power capacity was 417.8 billion KWH, up 2.5 percent year on year; Solar power generated 229 billion kilowatt-hours, up 14.3 percent year on year.
