China Energy pushes 11 projects, promotes clean renewable energy

The China Energy Investment Corporation announced on Wednesday the start and pre-start of 11 power projects with a total installed capacity of 12.4 million kilowatts. The projects, in addition to onshore new energy bases, focus on offshore wind power, large hydropower, coal power expansion and upgrading, as well as natural gas power generation.

The 11 projects, backed with a total investment of 86.1 billion yuan ($12.7 billion), are expected to add 48.5 billion kilowatt hours of electricity supply per year after completion. The installed capacity of clean renewable energy accounts for about 60 percent of the total projects.

China Energy said that these are part of the group's major projects in 2022, in order to promote clean and low-carbon high-quality development.

The group will invest 200 billion yuan this year, striving to achieve the equivalent commencement of 31 million kilowatts of power projects  and 22 million kilowatts put into operation, of which more than 20 million kilowatts of new energy will be constructed and 15 million kilowatts put into use.

China Energy has been focusing on clean and efficient coal power with high quality, vigorously scaling up the use of clean energy. In recent years, the installed share of clean renewable energy increased 4.3 percentage points, and the installed capacity of wind power exceeded 50 million kilowatts, maintaining its world leading status.

The group’s annual power generation capacity reached more than1.1 trillion kilowatt hours, accounting for about 14 percent of the country's total power generation capacity, which has provided strong energy support for the national economic and social development, as well as ensuring the power supply for people's livelihood.
