China's electricity generation increased by 3.1% year-on-year in Q1

China's absolute power generation reached 1992.2 billion kilowatt-hours in Q1 2022, up 3.1 percent year on year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said recently.
By category, in the first quarter, electricity generation from all sources increased compared with the same period last year, among which the increase of hydropower was the most obvious. In the first quarter of this year, absolute thermal power generation was 1,461.4 billion kilowatt-hours, up 1.3 percent year on year. Absolute hydropower generation was 221.2 billion KWH, up 12.7% year on year. Absolute wind power generation was 162.7 billion KWH, up 3.3% year on year. Nuclear power capacity was 99 billion KWH, up 6.9% year on year; Absolute solar power generation was 47.9 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10.3% year on year.
In March 2022, China's absolute power generation capacity was 670.2 billion KWH, up 0.2% year on year, 3.8 percentage points slower than that of January and February, with an average daily power generation capacity of 21.62 billion KWH.
By category, in March, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 468.8 billion kilowatt-hours, down 5.7% year on year. Absolute hydropower generation was 80.5 billion KWH, up 19.8% year on year. Nuclear power generation was 35 billion KWH, up 2.2% year on year; Absolute wind power generation was 67.3 billion KWH, up 23.8% year on year; Absolute solar power generation was 18.6 billion KWH, up 16.8% year on year.
