China's electricity production declined from an increase in December 2021, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). China's absolute power generation in December was 723.4 billion kilowatt hours, down 2.1 percent year on year, compared with 0.2 percent growth in the previous month and 10.54 percent higher than the same period in 2019, generating 23.3 billion kilowatt hours per day.
In December, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 543.3 billion kilowatt-hours, down 4.9 percent year on year, down 2.5 percent last month. Absolute hydropower generation was 71.5 billion kilowatt-hours, down 6.8 percent year on year, compared with a 1.9 percent drop in the previous month; Nuclear power generation was 37.3 billion KWH, up 5.7% year on year, 12.8 percentage points lower than last month. Absolute wind power generation was 51.6 billion kilowatt hours, up 30.1 percent year on year, compared with 27.7 percent growth last month; Absolute solar power generation was 14.2 billion kilowatt-hours, up 18.8 percent year on year and 3.9 percentage points slower than the previous month.
On a month-on-month basis, the country's electricity generation increased by 69.4 billion KWH in December, up 10.61%; Thermal power generation increased by 78.8 billion KWH, up 16.96%; Hydropower generation decreased by 18.6 billion KWH, down 20.64%; Nuclear power generation increased by 3.7 billion KWH, up 11.01%; Wind power generation increased by 5.5 billion KWH, up 10.66%; Solar power generation was flat month-on-month.
From January to December 2021, China's absolute power generation capacity was 8,1112.2 billion kilowatt-hours, up 8.1% year on year, 1.1 percentage points lower than the previous 11 months, and 11% higher than 2019, with a two-year average growth of 5.4%.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation capacity was 5,770.2 billion kilowatt-hours, up 8.4% year on year, which was 1.5 percentage points lower than that of the previous 11 months. Absolute hydropower generation was 1184 billion kilowatt-hours, down 2.5% year on year, or 0.3 percentage points more than in the previous 11 months. Nuclear power generation was 407.5 billion KWH, up 11.3% year on year, down 0.6 percentage points from the previous 11 months. Absolute wind power generation was 566.7 billion KWH, up 29.8% year on year, 0.6 percentage points higher than in the previous 11 months; Absolute solar power generation was 183.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up 14.1 percent year on year and 0.2 percentage points higher than in the previous 11 months.
