China's electricity generation rose 3 percent in October

China's electricity production maintained growth in October 2021, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). In October, China's absolute power generation reached 639.3 billion KWH, up 3 percent year on year, and the growth rate was 1.9 percentage points slower than the previous month, and 7.7 percent higher than the same period in 2019, with a two-year average growth of 3.8 percent. The average daily power generation reached 20.6 billion KWH.
To be specific, in October, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 426.4 billion kilowatt-hours, up 5.2% year on year, 0.5 percentage points lower than September. Absolute hydropower generation was 119.4 billion KWH, down 11.9% year on year and 11.6 percentage points more than last month. Nuclear power generation was 33.5 billion KWH, up 16.9% year on year, 12.6 percentage points higher than September. Absolute wind power generation was 46.5 billion KWH, up 23.5% year on year, 3.8 percentage points higher than September; Absolute solar power generation was 13.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 0.4 percent year on year and 4.1 percentage points slower than in September.
On a month-on-month basis, the country's electricity generation decreased 35.8 billion kilowatt hours in October, down 5.30%; Thermal power generation decreased 25.7 billion kilowatt-hours, down 5.68%. Hydropower generation decreased by 21.5 billion KWH, down 15.26%; Nuclear power generation increased by 300 million KWH to 0.90 percent. Wind power generation increased by 12.5 billion KWH, up 36.76%; Solar power generation decreased by 1.2 billion KWH, down 8.11%.
From January to October 2021, China's absolute power generation capacity was 6,717.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10 percent year on year, 0.7 percentage points slower than the previous 9 months, and 11.5 percent higher than the same period in 2019, with a two-year average growth of 5.6 percent.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation capacity was 4,755.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 11.3% year on year and 0.6 percentage points lower than that in the previous 9 months. Absolute hydropower generation was 1,022.2 billion kilowatt-hours, down 2.3% year on year, after expanding 1.4% in the previous 9 months. Nuclear power generation was 336.6 billion KWH, up 12.7% year on year, 0.4 percentage points higher than the previous 9 months; Absolute wind power generation was 451.5 billion KWH, up 28.6% year on year, 0.2 percentage points higher than the previous 9 months; Absolute solar power generation was 151.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10.5 percent year on year, 0.3 percentage points higher than the previous 9 months.
