Electricity generation rose 4.9% in September in China from a year earlier

China's electricity production accelerated in September 2021, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). In September, China's absolute power generation was 675.1 billion KWH, up 4.9 percent year on year, 4.7 percentage points higher than the previous month, and 10.5 percent higher than the same period in 2019, with a two-year average growth of 5.1 percent. The average daily power generation was 22.5 billion KWH.
Specifically, in September, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 452.1 billion kilowatt-hours, up 5.7% year on year. Absolute hydropower generation was 140.9 billion KWH, down 0.3% year on year. Nuclear power generated 33.2 billion KWH, up 4.3% year on year. Absolute wind power generation was 34 billion KWH, up 19.7% year on year. Absolute solar capacity was 14.8 billion kilowatt-hours, up 4.5 percent year on year.
On a month-on-month basis, the country's electricity generation decreased by 63.2 billion KWH in September, down 8.56%; Thermal power generation decreased by 64.6 billion kilowatt-hours, down 12.5 percent. Hydropower generation increased by 3.9 billion KWH, up 2.85%; Nuclear power generation decreased by 3.3 billion KWH, down 9.04%; Wind power generation increased by 1.8 billion KWH, up 5.59%; Solar power generation decreased by 1.1 billion KWH, down 6.92 percent.
From January to September 2021, China's absolute power generation capacity was 6,072.1 billion KWH, up 10.7% year on year, 0.6 percentage points lower than the previous 8 months, and 11.6% higher than the same period in 2019, with a two-year average growth of 5.7%.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation capacity was 4,327.3 billion kilowatt-hours, up 11.9% year on year. Absolute hydropower generation was 903 billion kilowatt-hours, down 0.9 percent year on year. Nuclear power generation was 303.1 billion KWH, up 12.3% year on year; Absolute wind power generation was 402.5 billion KWH, up 28.4% year on year; Absolute solar power generation was 136.2 billion kilowatt-hours, up 10.2 percent year on year.
