China's raw coal output in September 2021 was 334.1 million tons, down 0.9 percent year-on-year, after rising 0.8 percent in the previous month, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics. It was 1.8 percent lower than the same period in 2019 and 0.9 percent lower on a two-year average. On a month-on-month basis, raw coal production in September fell by 1.14 million tons from August, down 0.37 percent, following a 6.71 percent increase in the previous month.
In September, the average daily output was 11.14 million tons, up 330,000 tons from 10.81 million tons in August. Although the increase was lower than that in August, it was still significant. It was the third month-on-month increase since March and the second consecutive month of growth.
From January to September 2021, China's total raw coal output reached 2,930.59 million tons, up 3.7 percent year on year, or 0.7 percentage points slower than the previous 8 months. It was 3.6 percent higher than the same period in 2019 and 1.8 percent on a two-year average.
According to the above data, under the continuous influence of the policy of increasing production and ensuring supply, the national average daily raw coal output continues to increase. However, due to multiple factors such as large-scale events, frequent coal mine accidents and the proximity of the national festival, the safety supervision of coal mines in the main coal-producing areas is relatively strong, which has led to a year-on-year decrease again.
