China's coal imports in May fell by 4.61 percent year-on-year

China imported 21.04 million tons of coal in May 2021, down 1.017 million tons or 4.61 percent from 22.057 million tons in the same period last year, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on June 7, and 694,000 tons less than 21.734 million tons in April, down 3.19%.
Coal imports in May were $1,810.1 million, up 24.86 percent year on year and down 1.11 percent month-on-month. Based on this, the import unit price is 86.03 US dollars/ton, up 20.31 US dollars/ton year-on-year and 1.81 US dollars/ton month-on-month.
In the first five months of 2021, China imported 111.166 million tons of coal, down 25.2 percent year on year and 3.6 percentage points less than in the previous April. The accumulative import value was 8441.8 million US dollars, down 21.3% year on year.
