Chinas electricity generation increased by 11% in April

China's power production grew rapidly in April 2021, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said recently.
In April 2021, China's absolute electricity generation capacity was 623 billion kilowatt-hours, up 11.0 percent year on year, up 11.3 percent over April 2019, and up 5.5 percent on two-year average, with a daily average of 20.77 billion kilowatt-hours.
In April, thermal power, hydropower, nuclear power and wind power maintained growth, while the growth of solar power declined. Among them, thermal power grew by 12.5% year on year, with a two-year average growth of 6.7% based on April 2019. Hydropower increased by 3.3%, with a two-year average decrease of 3.1%; Nuclear power grew by 5.2%, with a two-year average growth of 7.9%; Wind power grew by 21.1%, with a two-year average growth of 10.7%; Solar power fell 6.4 percent, with a two-year average growth of 2.5 percent.
Specifically, in April, the country's absolute thermal power generation capacity was 451.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up 12.5% year on year. Absolute hydropower generation capacity was 77.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 3.3% year on year; Nuclear power generation capacity was 32.4 billion kilowatt-hours, up 5.2% year on year; Absolute wind power generation capacity was 47 billion kilowatt-hours, up 21.1% year on year; Absolute solar power generation was 14.4 billion kilowatt-hours, down 6.4% year on year.
From January to April 2021, China's absolute power generation capacity reached 2,527.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 16.8% year on year and 2.2 percentage points lower than that of the previous two months.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation capacity was 1,890.1 billion kilowatt-hours, up 18.9% year on year, or 2.2 percentage points lower than the previous three months. Absolute hydropower generation capacity was 272.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up 1.1% year on year, or 0.6 percentage points higher than the previous three months. Nuclear power generation capacity reached 125 billion kilowatt-hours, up 14.9% year on year, 3.9 percentage points lower than the previous three months. The absolute wind power generation capacity was 187 billion kilowatt-hours, up 28.2% year on year, or 2.7 percentage points lower than the previous three months. The absolute solar power generation capacity was 52.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up 7.6 percent year on year, 6.5 percentage points lower than the previous three months.
