The proportion of coal consumption will drop to less than 56% in 2021, according to a guideline on energy work in 2021 released by the National Energy Administration on Thursday.
The main targets for 2021 are as follows:
Energy structure. The share of coal consumption has dropped to less than 56 percent. About 200 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity will be replaced by new electric power, and the proportion of electric power in terminal energy consumption will strive to reach about 28%.
Supply security. China's total energy production reached 4.2 billion tons of standard coal, about 196 million tons of petroleum, 20.25 billion cubic meters of natural gas, and 1.1 billion kilowatts of installed power generation from non-fossil energy sources.
Quality efficiency. Reduce energy consumption per unit of GDP by around 3 percent. The utilization efficiency of renewable energy such as wind power and photovoltaic power generation has been maintained at a high level. The average utilization hours of cross-regional power transmission channels have been raised to around 4,100 hours.
Scientific and technological innovation. Efforts were accelerated to tackle key energy technology and equipment that are weak areas, and effective progress was made in independently replacing key core technologies, equipment and products. Focusing on the needs of developing new energy models and new forms of business, we will set up a number of new energy technology innovation platforms.
Institutional reform. The first batch of pilot spots for spot electric power were carried out on a trial basis with longer settlement periods, and the scope of spot electric power trials was steadily expanded, making electricity trading more market-based. We will improve the electricity market system connecting medium - and long-term, spot and ancillary service markets.
