China's electricity consumption increased by 3.1% year on year in 2020

On January 19, the National Energy Administration released data on electricity consumption data in 2020.
 
In 2020, the whole society consumed 7511 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, up 3.1 percent year on year. By industry, the primary industry consumed 85.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity, up 10.2 percent year on year. Electricity consumption in the secondary industry was 5121.5 billion kilowatt-hours, up 2.5% year-on-year. Electricity consumption in the tertiary industry was 1208.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up 1.9% year on year. Domestic electricity consumption for urban and rural residents was 1094.9 billion kilowatt hours, up 6.9% year on year.
 
In 2020, the accumulative average utilization hours of power generation equipment in power plants with a capacity of 6000 kilowatts or above were 3758 hours, a decrease of 70 hours year-on-year. Among them, the average utilization hours of hydropower generation equipment were 3827 hours, an increase of 130 hours compared with the same period last year. The average utilization hours of thermal power generation equipment were 4216 hours, a decrease of 92 hours compared with the same period last year.
 
In 2020, China's newly installed power capacity increased by 190.87 million kW, including 13.23 million kW of hydropower, 71.67 million kW of wind power and 48.2 million kW of solar power.
