Coal imports in China hit a 14-year high in 2020

China imported 39.075 million tons of coal in December 2020, up 36.303 million tons or 1309.63% from 2.772 million tons in the same period last year, and up 27.404 million tons or 234.8% from 11.671 million tons in November, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs on January 14.
The import value of coal in December was 1,946.1 million US dollars, up 904.7% year on year and 188.44% month on month. Based on this, the import unit price was 49.80 US dollars/ton, down 20.07 US dollars/ton year-on-year and 8.01 US dollars/ton month-on-month.
In the first 12 months of 2020, China imported 303.991 million tons of coal, a record high since 2014 (including 2014) and a year-on-year increase of 1.5%. The accumulative import value was 2,0237.3 million US dollars, down 13.5% year on year.
