Power generation increased 4.6 percent in October in China

China's absolute power generation capacity in October 2020 reached 609.4 billion KWH, up 4.6% year on year and 0.7 percentage point lower than the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said on November 16.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 399.1 billion KWH, down 1.5% year on year and the figure was up 0.2% in September. Absolute hydropower output reached 134.9 billion kilowatt-hours, up 25.4% year on year and 2.6 percentage points higher than the previous month. Nuclear power generated 28.7 billion kilowatt-hours, down 0.3% from a year earlier and the figure was up 7.4% in September. Absolute wind power generation reached 35.1 billion kilowatt-hours, up 14.7% year on year and 3.4 percentage points higher than the previous month. Solar power generated 11.6 billion kilowatt-hours in absolute terms, up 8.1 percent year on year and 4.1 percentage points higher than the previous month.
On a month-on-month basis, China's electricity output in October fell by 22.1 billion KWH, or 3.50%. Thermal power generation decreased by 23.2 billion KWH, or 5.49%. Hydroelectric power generation decreased by 3.6 billion KWH, or 2.60%. Nuclear power generation dropped 3.2 billion KWH, or 10.03%. Wind power generation increased by 8.4 billion KWH, or 31.46%. Solar power generation fell by 500 million KWH, or 4.13%.
From January to October 2020, China's absolute power generation capacity reached 6028.8 billion KWH, up 1.4% year on year and 0.5 percentage point higher than that of the previous months.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 4233.3 billion KWH, down 0.4% year-on-year. Absolute hydropower output reached 1044.4 billion KWH, up 4.2% year-on-year. Nuclear power generated 298.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up 5.7 percent year on year. The absolute wind power generation capacity was 332.7 billion KWH, up 10.5% year on year. Solar power generated 119.6 billion KWH in absolute terms, up 7.9% year on year.
In October 2020, China generated 19.66 billion KWH of electricity per day, down 1.39 billion KWH from the previous month.
