China's raw coal output in October 2020 was 336.63 million tons, up 1.4 percent year on year and down 0.9 percent from the previous month, according to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on Nov 16.

On a month-on-month basis, the figure was 5.557 million tons, or 1.68%, up from 331.07 million tons in September.

In October, the average daily output was 10.86 million tons, down 180,000 tons from September.

From January to October 2020, China's cumulative raw coal output reached 3127.43 million tons, up 0.1 percent year-on-year, after a drop of 0.1 percent in the first nine months.

After entering October, under the requirement of the State and local provinces to ensure stable price and enough supply, the operation rate of coal mines in all regions has improved, and the overall coal supply continued to increase, which promoted the national raw coal output to realize year-on-year growth again after May 2020, although the growth rate was small.

But the data also showed that average daily output in October was actually lower than in September. In September, China's average daily output was 11.04 million tons, up 530,000 tons month-on-month. That compares with a monthly drop of 180,000 tons in October. This may be related to the frequent occurrence of safety accidents in the main coal-producing areas and the further tightening of safety inspection; In addition, affected by the Mid-Autumn festival and National Day festival, some coal mines in some areas have stopped production, resulting in a decrease in the actual average daily output.
