Thermal coal imports in September in China dropped 39.26% year on year

The latest data released by the General Administration of Customs shows that in September 2020, China imported 8.23 million tons of thermal coal (including bituminous coal and sub-bituminous coal, but excluding lignite, the same below), a year-on-year decrease of 5.32 million tons, or a decrease of 39.26%. The month-on-month increase was 60,000 tons, or an increase of 0.73%. From January to September of 2020, thermal coal imports totaled 102.51 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 7.03 million tons and an increase of 7.36%.
In September 2020, China imported 3.36 million tons of lignite, down 59.9% year-on-year, and 1.42 million tons month-on-month, down 29.71%. From January to September 2020, the total import volume of lignite was 72.59 million tons, down 17.4% year on year.
