According to the latest data released by the National Bureau of Statistics, China's raw coal output in September 2020 was 331.07 million tons, down 0.9 percent year on year and 0.8 percentage point higher than the previous month.
On a month-on-month basis, the figure was 5.26 million tons, or 1.61 percent, up from 325.81 million tons in August.
In September, the average daily output was 11.04 million tons, up 530,000 tons from August.
From January to September 2020, China's cumulative raw coal output was 2787.15 million tons, down 0.1 percent year-on-year and unchanged from the previous 8 months.
Since the beginning of September, security checks and environmental protection in major coal production areas of the country have been tightened further to restrict the release of coal production capacity, resulting in a slightly tight coal supply. This can also be seen from the above data. The year-on-year decline in China's raw coal output in September widened from August.
However, with the lower temperature in the north, the first heating in the northeast, and the implementation of the coal import restriction policy, the increase in the supply of production is imminent, prompting all sides to take measures to increase coal production, which may be the reason for the month-on-month increase.
