Power generation increased 5.3 percent year-on-year in September in China

China's absolute power generation capacity reached 631.5 billion kilowatt hours in September 2020, up 5.3% year on year and 1.5 percentage points lower than the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said.
 
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 422.3 billion KWH, up 0.2% year on year and narrowing the growth rate by 6 percentage points compared with the previous month. Absolute hydropower output reached 138.5 billion kilowatt-hours, up 22.8 percent year-on-year and 13.9 percentage points higher than the previous month. Nuclear power generated 31.9 billion kilowatt hours, an increase of 7.4% over the previous year and 6.5 percentage points over the previous month. Absolute wind power generation reached 26.7 billion kilowatt hours, up 11.3% year on year and 7.4 percentage points less than the previous month. Solar power generated 12.1 billion kilowatt-hours in absolute terms, up 4% from a year earlier and 1.9 percentage points over the previous month.
 
On a month-on-month basis, China's electricity output in September fell by 92.3 billion KWH, or 12.75 percent. Thermal power generation dropped by 86.7 billion KWH month-on-month, or 17.03%. Hydropower generation decreased by 2.5 billion KWH month-on-month, or 1.77%; Nuclear power generation dropped by 1.3 billion KWH, or 3.92%. Wind power generation decreased by 1.4 billion KWH, or 4.98%; Solar power generation dropped by 500 million KWH, or 3.97%, month-on-month.
 
From January to September 2020, China's absolute generating capacity reached 5,408.6 billion KWH, a year-on-year increase of 0.9% and an increase of 0.6 percentage points over the previous month.
 
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation capacity was 3831.6 billion KWH, down 0.3 percent year-on-year. Absolute hydropower generation was 902.5 billion KWH, up 0.9% year on year. Nuclear power generated 270 billion kilowatt-hours, up 6.4% year on year. The absolute power generation capacity of wind power was 297.2 billion KWH, up 10% year on year. Solar power generated 107.1 billion kilowatt-hours in absolute terms, up 7.2 percent year on year.
 
In September 2020, China generated 2.05 billion KWH of electricity per day, a decrease of 2.3 billion KWH month-on-month.
