The cumulative power generated by the Xin'an River Hydropower Station, the first of its kind designed and built by China with domestically produced equipment, exceeded 100 terawatt-hours (TWh) at the end of August.

This is equivalent to reducing standard coal consumption by 99.7 million tonnes, carbon dioxide emission by 40.1 million tonnes and sulfur dioxide emission by 3 million tonnes, the State Grid said.

The annual output is expected to exceed 2.896 TWh, a record set in 2016, the State Grid said.

Located in Jiande City of Zhejiang Province, Xin'an River Hydropower Station is a water control hub on the main stream of the upper Qiantang River.

Besides power generation, the 60-year-old station has also served flood control, irrigation, tourism and salt tide prevention.

With all its equipment and ancillaries made in China, it is a milestone for the country's hydropower industry.
