Electricity generation in China increased by 6.8% in August

China's absolute power generation reached 723.8 billion kilowatt hours in August 2020, up 6.8% year-on-year and 4.9 percentage points higher than the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said recently.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 509 billion KWH, increased by 6.2% year on year, after falling 0.7% in July; Absolute hydropower output reached 141 billion kilowatt-hours, up 8.9% year on year and 2.8 percentage points higher than the previous month. Nuclear power generated 33.2 billion kilowatt-hours, up 0.9 percent year on year and 5.8 percentage points narrower than the previous month. Absolute wind power generation reached 28.1 billion KWH, up 18.7% year on year and 4.5 percentage points narrower than the previous month. Absolute solar power generation reached 12.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 2.1% from a year earlier, after falling 0.6% in July.
On a month-on-month basis, China's electricity output in August increased by 43.7 billion KWH, or 6.43%. Thermal power generation increased by 49 billion KWH month-on-month, up by 10.65%. Hydroelectric power generation decreased by 5.3 billion KWH month-on-month, or 3.62%; Nuclear power generation dropped by 200 million KWH month-on-month, down 0.6%. Wind power generation decreased by 200 million KWH month-on-month, or 0.71%; Solar power generation increased by 400 million KWH month-on-month, up by 3.28%.
From January to August of 2020, China's absolute power generation capacity was 4,772.8 billion KWH, up 0.3% year-on-year, and down 0.9 percent in the previous 7 months.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 3,406.9 billion KWH, down 0.4% year on year. Absolute hydropower generation was 763.4 billion KWH, down 2.3% year-on-year; Nuclear energy generated 238.1 billion kilowatt-hours, an increase of 6.2% year on year; Absolute wind power generation was 269.6 billion KWH, up 9.6% from the same period last year. Solar power generated 94.7 billion kilowatt-hours in absolute terms, up 7.4 percent year on year.
In August 2020, China generated 23.35 billion KWH of electricity per day, an increase of 1.41 billion KWH month-on-month.
