Thermal coal imports in June rose 6.79% year on year to 11.48 million tons

The latest data released by the General Administration of Customs shows that in June 2020, China imported 11.48 million tons of thermal coal (including bituminous coal and sub-bituminous coal, but excluding lignite, the same below), an increase of 730,000 tons or 6.79% compared with the same period last year. Month-on-month increase was 2.53 million tons, up 28.27%.
In June 2020, the import volume reached US $669.389, a year-on-year decrease of 8.15% and a month-on-month increase of 24.14%. Thus, the unit price of import was 58.31 US dollars/ton, down 1.89 US dollars/ton month-on-month, and down 9.48 US dollars/ton year-on-year. From January to June in 2020, China imported 75.54 million tons of thermal coal, a year-on-year increase of 21.39 million tons or 39.5%. The accumulative amount was USD 46.99611 billion, up 22.57% year on year.
In June 2020, China imported 7.04 million tons of lignite, down 22.5% year-on-year, and 840,000 tons or 10.66% month-on-month. The import amount was US $241.062 million, down 41.5% year on year. In the first six months of 2020, lignite imports totaled 56.98 million tons, down 3.9% compared with the same period last year. The total amount was US $23.22244 billion, down 9.4% year on year.
