The absolute power generation in China fell by 1.4% in H1 2020

China's absolute electricity output in June 2020 reached 630.4 billion kilowatt hours, up 6.5% year-on-year and the increase degree enlarged by 2.2 percentage points than that of the previous month, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said.
The country's absolute thermal power generation reached 432.3 billion kilowatt-hours in June, up 5.4% year on year and 3.6 percentage points less than the previous month. Absolute hydropower output was 121.5 billion kilowatt-hours, rose by 6.9 percent year-on-year after dropping by 16.5 percent last month. Nuclear power generated 31.8 billion kilowatt-hours, up 13.6% year on year and 0.7 percentage points less than the previous month. The absolute power generation capacity of wind power reached 32.4 billion KWH, up 15.8% year on year and 10.6% more than the previous month. Solar power generated 12.4 billion KWH in absolute terms, up 5.8 percent year on year and 1.3 percentage points less than the previous month.
On a month-on-month basis, China's electricity output in June increased by 37.2 billion KWH, or 6.27%. Thermal power generation increased by 8.8 billion KWH, or 2.08%, month-on-month. Hydropower generation increased by 35.7 billion KWH month-on-month, up 41.61%; Nuclear power generation increased by 700 million KWH month-on-month, or an increase of 2.25%. Wind power generation decreased by 7.2 billion KWH month-on-month, down by 18.18%; Solar power generation decreased by 900 million KWH month-on-month, down by 6.77%.
From January to June 2020, the country's absolute power generation capacity was 3,364.5 billion KWH, down 1.4% year on year, 1.7 percentage points less than that of the previous three months and 5.4 percentage points less than that of the first quarter.
Among them, the country's absolute thermal power generation was 2,434.3 billion KWH, down 1.6 percent year-on-year; Absolute hydropower output was 476.9 billion KWH, down 7.3% year-on-year. Nuclear power generated 171.6 billion kilowatt-hours, up 7.2% year on year. Absolute wind power generation reached 211.7 billion kilowatt-hours, up 6.8% year-on-year. Solar power generated 70 billion kilowatt-hours in absolute terms, up 9.1 percent year on year.
In June 2020, China generated 21.01 billion KWH of electricity per day, an increase of 1.87 billion KWH month-on-month.
