China imported 8.95 million tons of thermal coal in May, down 17% year-on-year

The latest data released by the General Administration of Customs shows that in May 2020, China imported 8.95 million tons of thermal coal (including bituminous coal and sub-bituminous coal, but excluding lignite, the same below), a year-on-year decrease of 1.84 million tons, or 17.0%; a month-on-month decline of 5.57 million tons, or 38.4%.
From January to May 2020, China imported 63.99 million tons of thermal coal, up 47.9% year-on-year.
In May 2020, China imported 7.88 million tons of lignite, a year-on-year decrease of 2.01 million tons or 20.3%, and a month-on-month decrease of 1.58 million tons or 16.7%.
In the first five months of 2020, 49.93 million tons of lignite was imported, down 0.6% year-on-year.
