On March 20, the National Energy Administration released data on electricity consumption in February.
In February, China's electricity consumption was 439.8 billion kilowatt-hours, down 10.1% from a year earlier. By industry, electricity consumption in the primary industry was 5.3 billion KWH, up 1.9% year on year. Electricity consumption in the secondary industry was 252.3 billion KWH, down 14.6% year on year. The electricity consumption of the tertiary industry was 83.3 billion KWH, down 10% year on year. The domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 98.8 billion kilowatt-hours, up 3.1% year-on-year.
In the first two months of this year, China's electricity consumption totaled 1020.3 billion kilowatt-hours, down 7.8% year on year. By industry, the primary industry's electricity consumption was 11.4 billion KWH, up 3.9% year-on-year. Electricity consumption in the secondary industry was 622.1 billion KWH, down by 12% year on year. Electricity consumption in the tertiary industry was 192.8 billion KWH, down by 3.1% year on year. Domestic electricity consumption of urban and rural residents was 194 billion kilowatt-hours, up 2.4 percent year on year.
