As of December 31, 2019, the province had 102 coal mines with a total production capacity of 140.03 million tons per year, according to a statement on Shandong's coal production capacity issued by the State Administration of Work Safety.
According to the announcement, there are 31 producing coal mines with a production capacity of 1.2 million tons per year or more, with a total production capacity of 39.63 million tons per year, accounting for 28.3 percent of the total production capacity.
It can be seen from the above data that the concentration degree of coal production capacity in Shandong Province is much lower than that in Shanxi, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia,Xinjiang, Guizhou and other major coal producing areas.
The implementation guidelines on accelerating the transformation and upgrading of Shandong's coal industry from old to new drivers have made it clear that the province's coal production capacity will be cut to below 130 million tons by 2022, and coal production will be controlled to around 100 million tons. Shandong Energy Group and Yankuang Group, two coal enterprise groups with production capacity of more than 100 million tons, will be cultivated and developed, and the actual production ratio of large coal mines in the province will reach over 90% by 2022.
