As of December 31, 2019, Xinjiang had 77 coal mines with a total production capacity of 169.08 million tons per year, according to a statement on the coal production capacity of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region released by the State Administration of Work Safety.
Specifically, the four sites in Yili Prefecture have a total production capacity of 9.6 million tons per year. 19 sites in Changji Prefecture have an annual capacity of 64.95 million tons; 6 sites in Urumqi City, with a total capacity of 11.16 million tons/year; 10 sites in Hami City, with a total capacity of 36.8 million tons/year; 15 sites in Aksu region, with a total capacity of 17.28 million tons/year; 9 sites in Taicheng area, with a total capacity of 10.64 million tons/year; 7 sites in Turpan City, with a total capacity of 14.53 million tons/year; 3 sites in Bazhou, with a total capacity of 1.67 million tons/year; 3 sites in Hetan area, with a total capacity of 1.65 million tons/year; 1 site in Kashgar, with a total capacity of 800,000 tons/year.
According to the announcement, there are 35 producing coal mines with an annual production capacity of 1.2 million tons or more, with a total production capacity of 140.45 million tons per year, accounting for 83.07 percent of the total production capacity.
