China has full confidence to guarantee the energy supply and ensure that work resumes smoothly, the country's top economic regulator said on Sunday.

Tang Shemin, an official from the National Development and Reform Commission, said at a news conference that China is able to maintain social and economic stability amid the coronavirus pneumonia outbreak, and there's abundant supply of coal, electricity, oil and natural gas.

"Most Chinese coal and oil refining companies have resumed work and restored production," Tang noted. "Many electricity and oil and gas mining companies have maintained continuous operations. And railway transport enterprises have given first priority to the supply of key materials such as coal."

“With the orderly resumption of work across the nation, we will see a surging demand for oil and gas in the future," Tang said.

In the next step, the NDRC will continue to closely monitor the changes in the energy supply and demand and take measures accordingly to resolve any issues.
