Shanxi plans to cut overcapacity by more than 15 million tons by 2020

Shanxi Provincial Energy Work Conference recently revealed that the reform of coal development and utilization will be further promoted this year.
The year 2020 will be a crucial year for carrying out comprehensive pilot projects for the energy revolution and building a national leader in the energy revolution. Shanxi should lead the energy transformation with green development, and make sustained efforts in the safe and green development, clean and efficient utilization of coal.
By 2020, Shanxi plans to cut overcapacity by more than 15 million tons, accelerating the withdrawal of coal mines with annual output of less than 600,000 tons, and maintain raw coal output at 1 billion tons. The normal production and operation of coal washing and dressing enterprises (plants) in the province are controlled at around 1200, and the annual washing and dressing capacity is controlled at about 1.8 billion tons. The washing rate of raw coal in the province is above 80%.
The meeting proposed that, this year, Shanxi will make breakthroughs in key areas such as the reform of the electric power system and the reform of the coal-bed methane management system, focusing on increasing the proportion of thermal coal in coal consumption, raising the level of large-scale development of coal-bed methane industry, and introduce supporting policies for gas utilization to ensure the steady improvement of gas utilization rate in coal mines.
