A total of six people were killed in gas leaks in two coal mines in south Kyrgyzstan's Batken Region over the weekend, the country's Emergencies Ministry said Monday.
In the first tragedy on Saturday, rescuers pulled out three miners in serious condition, who later died in a hospital.
Three others were killed in an unauthorized mine a day later.
Despite warnings from the authorities, residents in Batken Region risk their lives by engaging in unauthorized coal mining, said the Emergencies Ministry.
