Weihe power plant, a high-sulfur anthracite power generation project in Southwest China's Guizhou province that was listed as a national power generation demonstration project in January, started construction on Aug 7.
Located in Caishen town, Hezhang county, Bijie, the project includes one 660 megawatt ultra-supercritical circulating fluidized bed (CFB) generator set that burns high-sulfur anthracites, as well as other related supporting facilities, with a total investment of 3.9 billion yuan ($553.17 million).
The project will be operated with the joint efforts of the coal and the power industries.
The project will play a demonstration role in accelerating the use of anthracites, promoting green and low-carbon development, as well as facilitating the upgrading of energy production.
It is also important for the development of new demonstration zones in Bijie and poverty alleviation efforts in Guizhou.
