Armenian-Chinese trade turnover grows 23 pct in Q1

Armenian-Chinese bilateral trade grew by 23 percent to reach 203.8 million U.S. dollars in the first quarter of 2019, according to Armenia's National Statistical Committee on Monday.

Report released by Armenia's National Statistical Committee showed that Armenia's exports to China grew by 32.4 percent to 35.5 million dollars while imports of made-in-China goods, meanwhile, grew by 21.1 percent, totaling 167.3 million dollars in the first quarter of 2019.

Meanwhile, China's share in Armenia's foreign trade reached 12.5 percent against 9.6 percent in the same period last year.

China is Armenia's second biggest trade partner due to growth in trade turnover between the two countries. Russia has remained Armenia's key trade partner with a 27.9 percent share.

According to the country's Customs service, turnover between Armenia and China increased by 29.3 percent to 771 million dollars in 2018, when Armenian exports to China topped 107 million dollars, and imports from China reached 663.8 million dollars.
