Huang Xuenong, the director of the Power Department of the National Energy Administration, said on the 2018 China Electric Coal High-end Forum held on November 13th that in order to further improve the clean and efficient development level of coal power, China's coal power industry has vigorously promoted ultra-low emission and energy-saving renovation in recent years. By the end of 2017, the quantity of coal-fired units that have attained the limit value of ultra-low emissions was 700 million kilowatts, accounting for 71% of the total coal-fired units, and cumulative 604 million kilowatts of coal-fired units have been completed energy-saving conversion, achieving 96% of the conversion task ended in 2020. China has built the largest clean coal power supply system in the world.
It is understood that the world's first 600 thousand kilowatts supercritical coal-fired units, 1 million kilowatts ultra-supercritical units, and 600 thousand kilowatts supercritical circulating fluidized bed units are all put into commercial operation in China.
According to data from the National Energy Administration, the proportion of China's 600 thousand kilowatts and above coal-fired power units has increased to 45% or so by the end of 2017.
Huang Xuenong said that there are still 150 million kilowatts of coal-fired power units below 300,000 kilowatts. These units are responsible for heating or power grid support, and more powerful measures are needed to promote the elimination and shutdown of out-of-standard coal-fired power units.
"In the next step, we will continue to shut down the backward coal-fired units below 300 thousand kilowatts that are not up to standard such as environmental protection, energy consumption and safety. The ultra-low emissions conversion of qualified coal-fired power units in the central region will be completed in 2018, and the conversion of the western region will be completed in 2020." Huang Xuenong said.
