According to the latest experts' expection, China is likely to install more wind power capacity in 2018.
In 2017, the additional installed wind power capacity totaled 15.03 GW, 4.27 GW less than 2016 and 17.94 GW less than 2015, hitting a new low in the past five years, adding to a cumulated wind capacity of 164 GW, accounting for 9.2% of the total installation.
The National Energy Administration explained the stagnation in 2017 mainly came from slow-down in North, Northeast and Northwest China.
However, provinces in the central, east and southwest, featuring low wind speed that is fit for distributed wind power, will be the new growth engine of the installation.
According to the state plan for the 13th Five-Year (2016-2020), the wind power capacity is set to be installed at 205 GW by 2020, indicating the country will add another 41.32 GW in the next three years.
The unbuilt approval wind power projects before 2018 were 114.6 GW, and these projects should be built before 2019 according to the construction plan, which is the major part of newly installed wind power. The yearly average installation will be 30 GW at that time.
Moreover, since the exploited wind power with low speed in Central East China is 60 GW, accounting for merely 7% of the exploitable wind power with low speed in these areas, which has great potential for exploiting.
