Xinjiang started mining an open-pit coal mine with an annual output of 5 million tons on March 27th. As a large region of coal resources in China, Xinjiang is further optimizing the distribution of coal production and increasing the degree of industrial concentration.
The mine is the No. 1 Shitoumei Open-pit Mine in the Santanghu Mining Area of Hami City in eastern Xinjiang, developed and constructed by Xinjiang Energy (Group) Co.,Ltd. The open-pit mine has a planned production capacity of 20 million tons/year, and the first phase of the project will be built with 5 million tons/year. Part of the products will be used as raw coal for the supporting power station of "Xinjiang Electricity Export" and part will be used for local coal chemical projects.
Since 2019, coal production in Xinjiang, Shanxi, Shaanxi, Inner Mongolia, Ningxia and other five provinces and regions has continued to increase under the impact of capacity cutting. The important role and strategic position of western coal-producing areas are becoming more and more prominent.
Xinjiang's coal reserves are projected to reach 219 trillion tons, accounting for 40 percent of the country's total. In recent years, Xinjiang has actively implemented the strategy of transforming superior resources, attracting large enterprises and groups to set up coal bases in Hami, Junggar East and Yili, and building large coal, coal, electricity, coal and chemical projects, thus increasing the strength of the coal industry.
