Total electricity consumption has increased by 4.5 percent in 2019

Total electricity consumption has increased by 4.5 percent in 2019 over the previous year, the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) said at a press conference in January.
 
Electricity consumption in primary, secondary, tertiary and household sectors increased by 4.5 percent, 3.1 percent, 9.5 percent and 5.7 percent, respectively. Electricity consumption in the tertiary sector continued to grow rapidly.
 
By region, 28 provinces (autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the central government) saw positive growth in electricity consumption, with Guangxi and Tibet recording double-digit increases of more than 10 percent.
 
In terms of power generation, industrial power generation above designated size has increased by 3.5% year-on-year in 2019.
 
Thermal power, hydropower, nuclear power, wind power and solar power grew by 1.9 percent, 4.8 percent, 18.3 percent, 7.0 percent and 13.3 percent, respectively.
 
In December, electricity generation grew 3.5 per cent year on year, down 0.5 percentage points from the previous month.
